Situation

A Spanish publisher, part of a larger media group, was developing its strategic goals and business priorities in order to achieve a digital, reader-centric transformation.

They were looking for a partner who can support them in defining the ambitious goals, with a 360 view of the company, while building strategy capabilities and creating a culture of collaboration and experimentation.

Engagement

FT Strategies engaged in a 5-week project which included:

  • A collaborative North Star proprietary framework with an ambitious goal, outcomes and experiments
  • A governance model around the North Star to ensure delivery from leadership and cross-departmental teams
  • A change agents survey, analysis and communications plan with an action plan to engage change champions during the implementation of the transformation.

Results

  • Strategic capabilities built alongside FT Strategies consultants so the North Star strategic work can be further carried out internally with minimal support
  • An involved and energised cross-departmental team (incl. Newsroom, Marketing, Product, Data, Technology and Advertising) which has the governance structure to drive forward sub-outcomes and experiments
  • A group of change champions who can accelerate the change and ensure it sticks through ownership of actions and their internal influence

“As we are in the middle of the newspaper's biggest transformation in its history, we couldn't have asked for a better partner to support us on this journey.”
